Shelter in the Palace
about:
A searing chronicle of a 58-day standoff between a group of mothers and local government forces culminates in a military siege on a family home.
These events captured the imagination and conversation around the national housing crisis and the global, civil rights movement for housing as a human right.
makers:
This film was created through a collaborative effort, drawing on media recorded by local independent filmmakers, street journalists, activists, and some of the mothers themselves, all of whom came together to document these events. In the aftermath—and amid ongoing power struggles—some contributors were left vulnerable. They asked that their footage be included while their identities remained concealed, and the filmmakers have honored those requests.
