Bio

John Slattery’s directing debut, Casablanca Mon Amour, had a special preview screening by the San Francisco Film Society before a world premiere at the Dubai International Film Festival. It was highlighted in the New York Times then picked up for broadcast by the BBC and has now been invited to over 22 international festivals.

John began work in television as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco, writing and hosting a pilot for a social-issue TV series at the Moroccan National Institute of Television.

John also worked in the UCLA Dept. of Film, Television as a teaching assistant to Marina Goldovskaya, one Soviet Cinema’s most acclaimed documentary filmmakers, in her year-long Advanced Documentary Workshop.

As a cinematographer his work includes shooting for two-time Academy Award ® winner Haskell Wexler ASC, episodes of Funny or Die for Bob Odenkirk, documentaries for Stanford, ABC News Nightline, as well as the short film Parthanabe, which won an Emmy® Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

His latest short documentary is currently being broadcast on RTE/Irish National Television. His latest fiction feature was invited to World Premiere in competition at Vision du Reel,
in Nyon, Switzerland.

Oh, and one summer he got a job as a personal assistant to Isabelle Huppert and had a brief email correspondence with Chris Marker, so that was fun.

He holds an MFA from the Department of Film and Digital Media at University of California, Los Angeles.
